As we gather with family and friends to celebrate, remember that fireworks can quickly turn a fun evening into an emergency. Every year, thousands of people are injured by fireworks-related accidents, many involving burns to the hands, face, and eyes.

The members of Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department & EMS want everyone to enjoy the holiday while staying safe.

Fireworks Safety Tips:

๐Ÿ”ฅ Leave fireworks to the professionals whenever possible.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Never allow children to handle or ignite fireworks. Adult supervision is essential at all times.
๐Ÿ’ง Keep a bucket of water, hose, or fire extinguisher nearby whenever fireworks are being used.
๐ŸŒณ Only use fireworks outdoors in a clear, open area away from homes, vehicles, dry grass, trees, and other flammable materials.
๐Ÿ‘“ Wear eye protection and avoid loose clothing while handling fireworks.
๐Ÿšซ Never hold fireworks in your hand or point them at another person.
๐Ÿงจ Never relight a firework that fails to go off. Wait at least 20 minutes and then soak it thoroughly in water before disposal.
๐Ÿพ Keep pets indoors, as fireworks can cause fear, stress, and injuries.
๐Ÿš‘ Know your local emergency numbers and have a plan if an accident occurs.

Remember:

Fireworks can cause:

* Serious burns
* Eye injuries
* Hearing loss
* House and brush fires
* Property damage
* Permanent disabilities and even death

If someone is injured:

1. Move to a safe location.
2. Cool burns with cool (not ice-cold) water.
3. Do not remove clothing stuck to burns.
4. Call 911 immediately for serious injuries or fires.

Maryland Fireworks Reminder:

Many consumer fireworks remain illegal in Maryland, including firecrackers, bottle rockets, and Roman candles. Always check local and state laws before purchasing or using fireworks.

๐ŸŽ‡ Light up the sky โ€” not the emergency room.
From all of us at Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department & EMS, we wish you a safe and happy holiday. Stay responsible, protect your loved ones, and help keep our community safe. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿš‘
